The billowing dust cloud quickly overtook the blasters in the field who had set off the charges. We waited and hoped the cloud would stop there but . . . Before we knew it it was upon us. For several minutes we were fully engulfed in a cloud of white concrete dust. It was a surreal experience, similar to white-out conditions in a blizzard, but unique in its own way.

As the dust cloud finally dissipated, the rubble of the buildings came into view. This view of the rubble was taken about an hour later from 17th street. Check out our photos of the implosions of the Senior Center and the remaining apartment, which can be seen in the background.
